The beginning of a new semester brings the usual grand intentions. “I’m going to be so good this time and stay on top of my work.” But week 4 rolls around and you think, “next time”. But not this time! Make this semester your best ever! We have compiled a list of the ultimate 20 tips to ensure you have a super second semester.

 

  1. Fully immerse yourself in your course, you only get out what you put in.
  2. Remember to allow for some me time to reduce stress. Work-life balance is important.
  3. A little bit of exercise each week can dramatically reduce your stress.
  4. Preparation is key! Prepare for each class and you will find it easier to stay on top of assignments and exams.
  5. Set achievable goals to focus yourself.
  6. Set smaller targets for assignments/revision e.g. by Thursday I will have 1500 words written.
  7. Buy a diary, write in your deadlines and manage your time wisely.
  8. Begin assignments early, not the week before, to avoid stressful cramming.
  9. Do a little bit of work each day.
  10. Keep reminding yourself of your end goal, that way you will remain motivated.
  11. Paying attention in class makes doing the work a lot easier as you will already have some understanding of the information.
  12. Reward yourself when you reach a target or achieve a good result.
  13. If you don’t understand something don’t hesitate to ask a lecturer for help.
  14. Find your perfect study space, whether that is the library with snacks, your bedroom with endless cups of tea, or perhaps working with a study buddy.
  15. Cut out the procrastinating and you will get your work done much quicker.
  16. Group project? Don’t be afraid to take on the role of the leader. The group will be grateful.
  17. Don’t neglect your health with late night cramming sessions. Eating and sleeping properly is important.
  18. Leaving your phone in another room for just an hour will seriously increase your productivity.
  19. It’s up to you to do the work and reading to get the extra marks.
  20. Have a set amount of hours in your day for university work. Whether its 2 hours in the library after class or 2 hours in the morning. A routine will help you get your work done without procrastinating.
